Health's Food Awards recently released - The Best New Eats of 2011.  While the list was very extensive, we decided to choose our top 10 favorites!  See below for Tribeca Event’s 10 quick and easy health foods picks of 2011.

Purely Elizabeth Ancient Grain Granola Cereal in Pumpkin Fig. This low-sugar (only 6 grams) pick scored our vote for its fiber-rich puffed amaranth and quinoa flakes and fiber-and-omega-3-loaded chia seeds.  $7.99 for 12.5 oz; select whole foods markets and purelyelizabeth.com. ...

As farmers’ markets are sprouting up across the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut areas, many farmers are complaining that there is too much competition -- causing a decrease in sales.  While our local farms are working hard to provide farm-to-table produce, there are other markets already selling the goods they are working hard to prepare.  Several farmers are even going as far to say their business at farmers’ markets is half what it was five years ago.

Nationwide, the number of farmers’ markets has jumped to 7,175 as of Aug. 5; of those, 1,043 were established this year, according to...

So, you’re planning an event and need a little help with table settings?  The most important thing to remember: keep it simple.  (No one enjoys eating at a table that is overcrowded!)  It’s best to stick with theme, placement and organization.  With this in mind, below are our 5 Table-Setting Tips for any well-planned event.

1. Stick with traditional because every guest (from age 70 to 12) is familiar with the proper table placement of plates, silver and glassware.   (For a quick brush up: http://housewares.about.com/od/cutleryknives/qt/tablesetting.htm.)

Seasonal produce is easy to find in your local farmer’s market, but what happens if you want blueberries in February or tomatoes in the winter? Easy: solar food dehydrators are being used to store produce up to a year, with many nutrients locked in place for months.

When produce is out of season in your area you can now pull it from your storage cabinets. All it takes is two whole days of intense labor to build one (seems like a lot of work!).

Merchants Hospitality Group and Food Network's Pat and Gina Neely have partnered to bring NYC a hot, new BBQ house on the Upper East Side (1125 First Avenue).

Gina and Pat Neely have a successful TV show, “Down Home with the Neelys,” two busy Memphis restaurants, a cookbook and now they’ve added a third restaurant to the mix, Neely’s BBQ Parlor in New York.

The grand opening was on Tuesday, July 12 and everyone seemed to be very pleased with the food and service. This classic BBQ parlor is grilling...

With the start of May, also came the grand opening of The Leopard at Des Artistes.  Il Gattopardo owners Gianfranco and Paula Sorrentino opened this Southern Italy inspired restaurant on the Upper West Side (One W. 67th St) on Monday, May 2nd.  Opera and ballet aficionados along with Upper West Side residents are the crowd in this new elegant new hot spot.

A soft opening amongst Jazz and Latin tunes and classical décor with restored Howard Chandler Christy murals allowed for a neighborhood sample tasting.

Sample Dishes: Lentil...

Fresh produce is at its peak in summer and delicious fruits and vegetables are offered at farmers' markets all around the city.  Locally grown fruits and vegetables are loaded with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber, but make sure you pick up the best produce that’s currently in season.

Corn contains protein and fiber. The vitamins and minerals available are many of the B vitamins mainly folate, choline and vitamin C and A potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium and sodium (chow down!).

Figs are a great source of fiber - one quarter-cup serving of dried figs provides...

Organic food markets like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s are becoming more and more popular but there are still many health concerns of buying non-local goods.

Although certain produce may be marked with an “organic” sticker in your local supermarket, that doesn’t mean they are not still full of chemicals and pesticides.

Fact is, if the product is coming from another state (or even country) it most likely is covered in chemicals to...
